  Activities in Luc sur Mer

Sea, beach and cliffs…

Luc sur Mer’s beach is bordered with 1 mile of promenade, where it feels good to stroll. At very low tide, the sea uncovers rocks that allow walk fishing.
The angling fishers will enjoy the fishermen wharf at high tide. This wharf is coming from Ouitreham and has been assembled in 1971 in the extension of the “Brèche Marais”.
The sea that surrounding us brings us at the same time life and fun. We have to respect and to protect it.

Safety on the beach

A team of graduate rescuer lifeguards ensures the safety of the beach. 2 emergency stations are located on the promenade: one between the clock and the casino, and the other one in the east part of the fishermen wharf.
The promenade is equipped all over its length with a sound installation. It’s useful for all kind of information (activities). And also for the research and the reassuring of families who are missing a child who could have been mislaid.

Walk fishing on the “Côte de Nacre” coast

First of all, what ever kind of walk fishing you want to make, you have to put on boots or non skidded shoes to avoid slipping on seaweed.
Walk fishing can be done with or without any fishing material.
At low tide, rocks are uncovered. You can fish mussels. Avoid those that are too close from the shore and those that are unstuck to the rock. You can also find winkles.
If you have appropriate tools, you can seek for clams on the sandbanks, “knives”, shrimps, and different kind of crabs.
Caution! Straight lines are not always the shorter way from the shore to the rocks.
There are path that allow you to get to a rock without falling in holes full of water or to get too much wet.
Do not wait the last moment to live the rocks.
At very low tide, the sea goes up very quickly and a way that you use for coming, with only water up to the ankle, can be on the way back a hole 2 to 3 meter high, full of water. Calculate that after time of the low tide you have ? hour left before coming back.
Caution with the fog!
As it can arrive suddenly, I advise you when you go to fish to have always with you a compass and a whistle.

The cliffs
In the direction of the cliffs between Luc sur Mer and Lion sur Mer, fossils’amateurs would be happy! One can find a lot of fossils from the secondary era and from the Jurassic period (160 millions years ago). A fossil is the witness of an old geological activity. One use to say that it is the vestige of the shape of an animal or a plant. Fossils must be collected on the beach and not directly on the cliffs (that are dangerous).

Biking and hiking trail
2415 meters long (1,6 miles), the trail connects the shore to the beautiful Basilique of Douvres la Délivrande. Starting at the camping entrance nearby the beach, this trail allows you a nice walk or ride with complete peace of mind with the children.
